Step 1: Creating the Home Page File

It is suggested that you create a subdirectory on your computer where you can store the "index.html" file and any associated graphics or other html files.  It would also be useful to create the same directory structure on your PC, as you intend to implement in the "public_html" subdirectory of your user area on Odyssey, to assist in file transfer administration.

Most browsers should support viewing of the home page and any linked files in subdirectories, on your PC. This makes it possible to make changes to your home page and any associated files at any time and see what it will look like, before it is transferred to Odyssey and made available for viewing over the internet.

If you wish, you can create index.html on your PC, using a text editor or other html development editor. Alternatively, you can download the generic home page template.html to your PC and then use a text editor to customise it to your needs. Either open the file in a browser window (by clicking on the link above!) and save to your PC as index.html (File menu then Save As), or save the file directly to your PC (right click on the link above and select "Save Link As" from the available list).

Using a text editor, modify instances of username to your username, User's Full Name to your full name and make any other additions you wish; then save the file.
