ADSL via DFT

The following table of pricings is effective as of 20 April 2005:

Notes:

Possible shaping*: download speed may be slowed (shaped) to 56kb/s when downloads exceed 40GB.
Dynamic**: for a statically allocated IP address, add $7.30 per month (incl GST)
Unless a Shaped Plan is selected, downloads in excess of the included allowances are charged at the rate of 0.968 cents per Megabyte (MB) (incl GST).
Unlimited WAIX downloads/uploads are an additional $7.30 per month (incl GST).
The off-peak period is from Midnight to 8:00am daily.
Excess Download charges must be paid in advance, and can be obtained in multiples of 100MB.
All allowances count uploaded as well as downloaded data. For unlimited uploads, add $7.30 per month (incl GST).
If Shaped Plan is selected, download speed may be slowed (shaped) to the 56kb/s when the allowance has been exceeded.

Notes Applicable to All Plans/Additional Fees:

The setup fee is $99 where there is no ADSL in place, or $36.90 if it involves churning.
All Plans above are available (at quoted pricings) in the Perth metropolitan area only. Please make contact to confirm your area is within the ADSL metropolitan Perth coverage area.
If the ADSL connection is not maintained for a minimum of 6 months, an additional fee of $60.50 applies (incl GST).
Changing the speed of your connection (faster or slower) incurs a $60.50 fee (incl GST).
Changing your download/upload allowances incurs a $43.60 fee (incl GST).

General information

If your computer is running Windows 98 or above, and has a spare USB port, probably the most reliable ADSL modem is the D-Link DSL-200 modem. These are available from many electrical retailers, such as Dick Smith, Tandy and Harvey Norman (just to name some), and generallly cost around $120-150. Line filters are available from electrical retailers also and cost around $20. Other modem/router options are also possible, the D-Link website makes a good starting point.

When using the DSL-200, we recommend you make sure you are using the latest driver for it, which can be downloaded from the D-Link website, http://www.dlink.com.au/ (just follow the "Drivers" link at the bottom of their homepage.
